indian geography and her diversity

You must have read about the topological division of India in geography, where we get to know that our country can be divided into six parts according to topography.

From Kashmir in the north to Arunachal in the east, lies the great Himalayan range. The Himalayan range is further categorized into three parts. At the top lies the mountain range which has the distinction of having some of the highest peaks of the world, including Mt. Everest and Kanchenjunga however Mt. Everest is in Nepal. Just below this majestic range lies the middle range, which has high hills. The low range lies south to the middle range and has lot of hills.

As the mountain range ends, the Indian plane starts. It stretches from Punjab to Bihar and West Bengal. Lots of rivers in the area and rich fertile soil make it ideal for farming.

On the far west is the Thar desert. This desert covers almost all of Rajsthan and some parts of Gujrat. Indian has a large peninsula, which has the Western ghats to its left and the Eastern coastal plane to its right.

Exactly at the centre, almost in a triangular shape, is the great Indian plateau. It is huge and covers many states like M.P, Chattisgarh, parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, A.P, Orissa and also touches UP.

These divisions are not only in the books, but if you travel and see India from north to south and from east to west you will see these vividly. You will get different terrains, different soil types different people and a wide variety of flora and fauna. All these different topological divisions have added to the diversity of India as a country. Different cultures have flourished because of this diversity and that is why our country has Unity in Diversity.
